Performing three short one-act plays, the Adur Theatre Company had the audience in stitches. With a cast of caricatures they managed – with perfect timing – to carry it all off without resorting to stereotype. The show was easy to watch and lots of fun.
At Camp Confidence, weekend boot camp facilitator Julia and her assistant Fiona arrived at the campsite to prepare for the arrival of workshop participants.
One by one, the four attendees duly turned up, each with an unlikely issue to work on. The combination of agoraphobia, a fear of birds, and an obsession for cleanliness provided plenty for Julia to work on, while the humour arose from the fact that the workshop exaggerated these issues.
Peas concerned a blind date and again, was very well executed. A subject which in other hands might easily have been tawdry and predictable, was instead fresh and engaging. This audience lapped up saucy references.
Finally, in a meeting between factory manager and union representative, the clue to the twist was in the title, Carrot. Brian would not accept a cup of tea – he would wait and have his with the "men". This stance was maintained until an offer from the manager tempted him to compromise his principles.
Plenty of thought and creativity went into making these plays entertaining and colourful.
The director and production team were no doubt as pleased with the result as the audience were.
Well worth seeing.
